Brief: The assignment for this project was to choose a single song track that we liked (that wasn't already associated with an album), and to create two album covers for the track.
Insight: I chose "The Glow" by Sylvan Esso, since it was my favorite song at the time, and listening to it gave me a lot of creative direction. I was inspired by posters and other print media Sylvan Esso has done, as well as posters for other artists and music festivals.
Method: For the first cover, I experimented with chunky hand-styled fonts and outlines to mimic the groovy, reverberating beat of the song. For the second cover, I chose to follow Sylvan Esso's vintage inspiration, and created a decoupage-style with a Walkman (referenced in the song) and '80s-style abstract shapes, in a neon color palette.
Takeaway: I really enjoyed combining the photo and illustration elements, and the album covers feel harmonious with the artist's visual identity.
